TOTA Virtual Week at the Capitol

Free to all members of TOTA! The week of activities will include an orientation with TOTA’s legislative advisors, continuing education credit learning opportunities, and virtual visits with Members of the 87th Texas Legislation or their staff. TOTA leadership will be available for live virtual office hours to answer questions and address your concerns.
  • Orientation information will be provided via zoom
  • Thursday legislative visits will be scheduled at a later date.

  • When registering, be sure to enter your address where you are registered to vote.
  • You can register for any or all of the sessions.

Postponed!!!!

Due to inclement weather throughout Texas, the "2020 Vision? Envisioning our future through the lens of a world changed by a global pandemic." webinar has been postponed. When a new date is scheduled, an invitation will be sent.  In the meantime our speaker Brent Braveman will be available on Wednesday night during TOTA officer hours from 6:00 PM -6:45 PM.  A Zoom link will be sent to all registered attendees.

2020 Vision? Envisioning our future through the lens of a world changed by a global pandemic.
What will a post COVID-19 world look like and how will our lives be forever changed? Changes in daily occupations, customs and habits, workplaces, communication, and technology will create new challenges and opportunities for our profession. This presentation will explore these dynamics and seek to envision what the future may hold for the practice of occupational therapy.

State Policy’s Impact on Occupational Therapy Practice
This presentation will discuss various state policy issues, with a focus on legislative issues, that affect the occupational therapy practice. Topics that will be discussed include changes to Medicaid and reimbursement, scope of practice opportunities and challenges, occupational licensing reform, and access to occupational therapy services.

From Legislation to Practice: HHSC’s Role in Bill Implementation Impacting Medicaid Therapies
This presentation will outline the relationship between Texas state legislation and HHSC's role in the implementation of those acts and riders. We will review legislatively driven changes to the Texas Medicaid policies for occupational, physical, and speech therapies that occurred 2016-2018 to connect bill language to changes in Medicaid policies. Current issues will be discussed, and a Q and A will follow.

Everything you want to know about licensure portability.
This presentation provides an overview of the processes and procedures involved in creating the Occupational Therapy Licensure Compact as well as the current status of this endeavor. The presentation will provide a summary of the roles and functions of these working teams, as well as a review of the compact development process and anticipated implementation timelines. This session will also outline the history, purpose, costs, and benefits of licensure compacts and address the advocacy needed to establish a compact.
