OT and PT Service Delivery in Schools: Policy, Research and Best Practices [2-Day Conference]
Friday, June 4, 2021 and Saturday, June 5, 2021

This conference is designed to assist OT and PT school-based practitioners serving in Texas public schools with developing their knowledge base regarding service delivery for all struggling learners. Planned sessions will alert attendees to the latest developments in federal and state education policy, including applicable case law.  Evidence-based practices and effective interventions will be shared for service delivery to students in traditional educational environments as well as virtual school environments. Current published competencies (PT) and quality standards (OT) for school-based practitioners will be reviewed.

Relevance to Occupational Therapy: 
At last count, just under ¼ of all occupational therapy practitioners worked in public school settings providing services to struggling learners as mandated under federal education law. This conference provides attendees updates to applicable federal and state policies as well as updates on research in promotion of evidence-based practices for positive student outcomes.

Relevance to Physical Therapy:
Physical therapy practitioners working in public school settings provide services to students with disabilities as mandated under federal education law. This conference provides attendees updates to applicable federal and state policies as well as updates on research in promotion of evidence-based practices for positive student outcomes.

As a result of attending this workshop, attendees will be able to:

1)  articulate roles for occupational therapy and physical therapy practitioners as 1) related services providers, and 2) specialized instructional support personnel in Texas public schools;
2)  describe 3 competencies for effective OT and/or PT service delivery in schools, based on current professional standards; and
3)  identify 2 evidence-based interventions occupational therapy and physical therapy practitioners can employ for fostering positive outcomes for struggling learners at school, including students with disabilities.
