This course is relevant to OT practice as sexual activity is considered an occupation. As OT practitioners, we must understand and be able to intervene when our clients with disabilities need assistance with this occupation.

Speaker:  Jennifer Summers, OTR, OTD
Jennifer Summers is an assistant professor of occupational therapy at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences, San Marcos, CA (previously of Austin Texas). She specializes in health policy, disability advocacy, and the intersection of disability and sexuality.

Objectives:  At the end of the presentation, attendees will be able to:

a. Describe the complexity of choice and control people with disability face with occupations associated with dating, sex, and reproduction

b. Compare the rehab model and social model of healthcare to enhance sexual choice and control for people with disabilities.

c. understand how evidence can be used to support decisions in practice when supporting occupational performance issues related to sexuality
