Short Abstract: -Home mods improve bot
h physical and mental health of patients. We will provide education on role
of occupational therapy, how to identify qualified service providers, to u
se innovative technology to enhance service delivery and insight into affor
dable options for patients.
Learner Objectives:
1) Discuss the roles of OTs in
home modifications both as a referral source and practitioner.
2) Iden
tify home modifications to improve independence of patients ranging from pr
eventive care thru end of life.
3) Understand the right of renters as
it relates to getting home modifications to age in their housing situation.
4) Understand how home modifications are valued by private insurance
companies and state Medicaid.
5) Insights on various home safety asses
sments OTs can use in their practice.
6) Review financial options in T
exas to subsidize the cost of home modifications for patients (hand out pro
vided).
